Our Story

Beach Hockey has quite the history, unfortunately lost records and personnel changes have limited the ability to honor the programs history.

Long Beach State Hockey was initially founded in 1978 by Steve Thrasher. The first season’s uniforms matched more of the old New York Rangers style with a red, white and blue color scheme. During the 80's, the club disbanded only to be reborn in 1993. By the late ‘90s, the Long Beach joined Division II of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, an organization that brings together fellow club hockey teams including local foes like Calif. State Univ. of Fullertron, Loyola Marymount, San Diego State, Univ. of Calif., Los Angeles, and more. The Beach have donned uniforms matching the classic Penguins style and the old school Bruins black and gold. Currently the Beach competes in the West Coast Hockey Conference (WCHC) alongside Arizona State University, Loyola Marymount, California State University Northridge, and California State University Fullerton.

Long Beach’s best season came in 2007-2008 when the Beach finished the regular season ranked no. 4 in the West Region. Since then, the program is still making noise in the West and look to bring a championship to the great city of Long Beach!
